Abstract

This article examines the influence of social media on modern English vocabulary, exploring how platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Reddit shape lexical innovation, semantic change, and language use. It discusses the creation and spread of neologisms, abbreviations, acronyms, and visual-symbolic forms like emojis and GIFs, as well as semantic shifts in existing words. The study highlights sociolinguistic factors, including generational, regional, and global variations, and considers implications for language standardization, literacy, and cross-cultural communication. The article concludes that social media fosters dynamic vocabulary evolution while reflecting social identity, creativity, and the adaptive nature of contemporary English.
